Band/artist history
R & R- what makes them unique?
R & R, when you're ready to Rock.......Real Rock 'n' roll to get your feet moving and your heart pounding!!! This is true Rock and Roll the way it was meant to be played. Rock, Blues, Ballads....it's all here!!
Band History
Laird began playing guitar in the mid 60's, spurred on by the Beatles, and later Hendrix. He began writing music in the 60's and has continued to this day. He only plays selected cover songs, but is always looking for that great cover tune which fits his vocal and guitar style.
Laird played in various high school bands in the 60's and 70's, then focused on writing during the 70's to early 80's. In 1984 he formed R&R with the expert percussion of Michael Lopez providing the perfect backbeat to his tunes.
Using the Band to present original material and showcase a hard driving rock sound. His band began performing in the San Jose Bay area and were rising through the ranks of mid-level clubs when Laird had to move to New Hampshire. He formed another band, EW Strike and began touring the New England states.
Most of the R&R music reflects a raw style or driving Rock'n'roll, ballads, and blues. Laird continues to write new material and record.

Laird History:
Laird grew up on West Coast in the Santa Cruz Mountains in a town called Los Gatos. He came from a musical family, his father being from the Beatnik era and a radio announcer on KXRX in San Jose. He was always playing contemporary music - Jazz mostly - and had an extensive collection of records (remember them?). His mother was also an accomplished musician playing Clarinet, Sax, Piano, and Cello. She often played in bands that rehearsed at the house...not always to the delight of the neighbors.
There was also a heavy influence of Broadway show tunes such as Fiddler on the Roof, The King and I, and many others. As Laird began to get interested in music he was urged to try different musical instruments - clarinet, flute, and piano - but he didn't feel a passion for these instruments. You see, the English invasion was just beginning and Rock'n'Roll was in his soul. He was sure he was going to be a guitar player, but his parents were against him playing the guitar - mostly due to a psychic who advised against Laird taking up a stringed instrument. Although he did not have the support of his parents, he scraped together some money and bought his first electric guitar.
Since his parents didn't support the instrument he began to learn on his own from books and friends. He finally formed his first band while in the eighth grade and they played several Fireman barbecues and local parties, but mostly rehearsed. During high school he joined another band with the bass player and they played for several years during high school at local dances. Laird did not play guitar in this band, but was the lead singer - his other passion.
As the years passed, Laird began writing his own songs being frustrated at learning cover songs other than to learn technique and form. His earliest influences were Jimi Hendrix, Fleetwood Mac (with Peter Green), Sonny Terri and Brownie McGee and, of course, The Beatles. The blues were in his soul, but the Rock took a forefront as his technique and style developed. After high school, Laird spent 3 years in the Army where he continue to write songs and play with fellow serviceman. When he left the service, he continued to write and play, but did not form another band for several years. Finally in 1985 he established R&R as his vehicle for performing and promoting his unique style of Rock'n'Roll. Good local response was taking him through the SF Bay Area rock circuit until he met his wife.
He then moved to New Hampshire in 1989 to start a family. He still wrote and performed but on a more limited basis. Since then he has focused on mastering his works and continued to record through the early 2000's. Laird is living in New Hampshire and forming a new R&R Band. He continues to write new material and will be recording a new Cd within the next several months. His previous works from the early 70's to today are available on MP3.com and three CD's are currently available - Atlantic City, MCL, and 1972. An additional 2 CD compilation will also be available with works from his West Coast R&R band. Laird will also be performing in the Evor Concert Series beginning in New Jersey and continuing to perform in the Boston show and the San Francisco shows with a possible appearance in Tampa, also.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
