PurpleOrange

We have been playing covers as well as our own original music around the Windsor/Detroit scene together for around 6 years, strong. The two main members and founder of PurpleOrange include: Dann Allaire, (lead, Back-up vocals, Lead, rhythm guitar, Percussion, Piano, etc.) & Tim Pinnegar (lead, back-up vocals, rhythm guitar, percussion etc.) We are known for our wide variety of cover tunes, with a huge 600+ song set list as well our own original material with a deep, acoustical/alternative feel. Definetly in a original class of its own. If you like music you are sure to like ours.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
In the spring of 1999 I (Dann), had been going through some tough times, moving around from house to house trying to make ends meet. I had just broken up with my g/f and didnt really have anything or anywhere to go. Having only a part-time job, I was able to move in with my cousin in downtown Windsor, which made it easy to get around being that my vehicle wasnt in the best condition either. I had always enjoyed watching Freestyle BMX, around the streets, and on television, and always wanted to learn the tricks. I bought a BMX bike and started learning different maneuvers, stunts, etc. allowing me to take my mind off my not-so-great lifestyle, going nowhere FAST!!! I always rode downtown Windsor due to the attention from the variety of people in the area. I had met this guy busking on the streets named Tim. He was always out on the street playing his impossible to play Norman guitar, with his of all the things Ive lost, I miss my mind the most Ozzy quoted sticker, in plain view, as to prove all sterotypes of musicians correct. He always had money in that case, which got me wondering why the hell I havent been doing this, rather than riding a BMX bike. I had already been playing a variety of musical instrument for over 10 years at the time, but was always too shy or scared to actually go out into the public to play. Tim would let me play his guitar here and there and from that time on, I knew this is what I wanted in life. I am a people person and love to be the center of attraction. There is no better feeling than watching the expressions on peoples faces, and the applause while playing music. I dont really know why I havent been doing this a long time ago or what the problem was. All I knew, I had to start, and that was the time. One night I decided to go and try it out, the whole busking thing. I went by the spot where Tim was usually set up but he wasnt there. It was around 9:30 pm on a Friday night, I figured he wasnt going to be out so I set up shop where he always played. Ten minutes into playing, Tim shows up. He was only running a little late I guess. I had made about $10.oo, apologized for setting up where he was always at, offered to split the money I had made cause I kind of felt bad for being there. I figured hed be mad but he refused the money, and instead offered to play together and split our earnings at the end. I started coming out more on a regular basis until eventually we started playing in the bar scene. Needless to say, I guess weve been mostly unseperatable from then on, with our 2 man acoustical jam, always playing for the people, always allowing guests to play, always the first to yell a SOCIABLE raising our drinks (non-alcohol of course), yeah right!!! And always ready perform in front of anyone ready to listen. I guess you could kind of call us a live karokee jam night. In the summer of 2004, PurpleOrange had already been together for over 5 years, doing the same thing over, and over again, we realize it was time to take PurpleOrange to the next level and get into the studio. Being told to only record a 4 or maybe 5 song CD, we decided to do things our way this time, recording a 19 song CD entitled Go BIG or Go HOME!!! The name speaks for itself.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
I live to play live. I do it any chance I get. I wish I had a full band to play live with though. We're always finding different musicians to do live shows with us. It would be nice to have the same people all the time to travel with but, its hard to find serious musicians. People TALK, but most can't WALK.
Your musical influences
I guess, judging by other people's reactions to our music, some would say we are a cross between, um, a newer-aged Bon Jovi meets Brian Adams meets Uncle Cracker meets Bare Naked Ladies. We Sound Like "Us". We are kind of in an original class of it's own. Listen, you'll like.
What equipment do you use?
Equiptment? Um, how do you answer that? What kind of equiptment do all bands use? um, us, guitars, keyboard, percussions, microphones etc... Is that the right answer?
Anything else?
How much music do I have to make before the right person hears it?
