Purge UK
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
The band Purge' didn't really start until late 2002. It all started years before when Mark, Max & Nial wanted to create a band. They teamed up with Scott Cosby (drums) and started from there. They started playing covers, such as 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'. After a few weeks, Scott left due to disagreements. They then looked for a new drummer and found Greg Rogers. The band started to practice in Greg's room and chose the name, "Lazarus". Greg also left due to disagreements. Ryan Cogram joined from school and soon the band was practicing in his garage. The band stayed together for a while, almost a year. The band eventually changed their name to "Ikonoklast" and played live at a few talent nights and a Christening, but the members didn't seem to fit together very well, and the band was lacking a singer. There were constant arguments and they grew more frequent, and the band decided to stop playing together in August/September 2002. Ikonoklast was no more.
After the the burning out of Ikonoklast, Max and Mark and decided to form a new band. As they both worked well together and shared the same taste of music. They both wanted a band that sounded heavier, and more like the band 'Raging Speedhorn'. Max and Mark were lacking a drummer. They thought long and hard, and then remembered Greg. After asking him, he was happy to join. The band started to practice at Greg's house again, and made a few songs and un-finished pieces together. That's when the school started sticking posters up for a Charity Pop Stars' concert. Mark, Max and Greg decided to sign up as one of the two bands, under the new name, "Purge". The only thing missing from the band was a singer.
That's were the band decided to ask James Burgon. James was a good friend of the members of the band and they asked him to be their singer for the talent night, knowing he could write lyrics and perform in front of large audiences. James accepted. After a few slow practices at Greg's house, Purge created their first song. It was called Crimson Rivers'. It was about the Maryland Sniper, Haha. As the song was completed and the band was ready for the show, they practiced every weekend until it was perfect. The performance went well, and it'll be a night we'll always remember. When the curtains went down, Purge asked James to join the band. James agreed to be the permanent singer, as he fitted in well and sounded great with the band. With all the different musical influences, Purge' are happy with the way they sound and their style. The band is still going strong, and hopefully will last for years to come.
The past members have since moved on, as Scott Cosby is now in the band, 'A World Apart'. Ryan Cogram is now in a 3 piece band who go by the name of 'Lavos', and Nial is currently drumming for the band, 'Sintuition'.
