Band/artist history
Not Your Mum's Music Ever been caught unexpectedly by a massive, body thumping wave and dumped tumbling and thrashing onto the sandy bottom, feeling the overwhelming force of the water, not knowing which way is up? Then, in an instant the swirling force is gone and through the curtain of foaming bubbles you kick up towards the light and sweet, sweet air. What a rush! Want to experience the musical equivalent? Thumping, throbbing, power you can literally feel, but with interludes of uncharacteristic calm? Melbourne band PTB (formerly the multi-syllabic "Phantombola") delivers! PTB is not, and never will be one of those bands described in a recent review by The Age's reviewer, Dan Silkstone, as having the "reputation for raiding their parents' record collections." A fusion of Rock, Nu-Metal, Prog, Goth, Commercial, Industrial, Pop and Power, the original songs written, performed and recorded by the band are, in the words of founding member, Feris D'nasti, "a hard power product of musical prostitution." The band in its revamped form has existed since May 2003, yet in that time it has moved very fast and hard to build up a strong fan base (their "Warriors" - track 7 of their first album "Harvest") and played a variety of Melbourne venues. These venues include the Hi Fi Lounge (Crusty Demons of the dirt official afterparty), Espy (Gershwin Room and Star War's bar) , the Corner Hotel, the Central Club in Richmond, Breakers Metal (Moonie Ponds) and Revolver. Upcoming shows this year are Goo at the Metro, Switch, and the prestigious Metal For The Brain in Canberra (February 5th). Moving quickly from a support role for "name" bands such as Jerk, Full Scale, and Edguy(Germany), PTB have already started headlining venues such as the Hi Fi Lounge and Revolver. Their presence is becoming known in the music scene by not only word of mouth and friends but by various advertisements and other press. They have also appeared on PBS radio 106.7 FM and also on Channel 31 numerous times. Viewed as having a massive stage presence and it is obvious that Feris' passion and energy at the microphone is matched by the talented instrumentalists behind the pulsing wave of sound enveloping PTB's loyal fans who follow the group from one venue to another. The founding members of Phantombola - vocalist Feris D'Nasti, Bobby Baskaran on bass, and Luke Ashby on drums - have been joined by guitarist Brett Bartlett and keyboard player/sampler Christopher McLean, who unite in musicianship under the new PTB title. After 10 months on-and-off in writing sessions and in the recording studio producing their 10 track demo "Harvest", PTB have started writing for their next project, an EP displaying their new material and showcasing their passion and drive for what will definitely be the next big thing in rock. Worldwide. Period. A short clip is posted on the group's website under a nostalgic URL marking their roots at www.ptbonline.org , here you will find audio, video, bio's, pics, news, forum and much more to do with PTB, also the full gig video can be obtained upon request.
