Prolead

Prolead. A name that can only be defined by the music Nick Gagnon, Ryan Stevenson, Gab Prévost and Max Gosselin create. All of them from the little suburban town of Montreal called Ile-Bizard, each one brings a new angle and personality to the band. In a time where image and trends take center stage in front of the music and song writing, Prolead as done everything to bring it back where it belongs. Instead of flashy hair styles and clothes, trying to fit in or thinking about what to sound like, they stand out with their memorable live performances and unforgettable songs. Call them what you want, but I think great music is the category they rightfully fall under.

In the summer of 2000, Nick Gagnon had a vision: to sing, to write and to be heard by whomever wanted to listen. But he knew he couldn’t do it aloneand he didn’t want to do it alone. After meeting Gab Prévost on his first day of Junior High, the 2 of them discovered a friendship they had never imagined possible. Prolead was born, even if over the years the band name may have changed. Nick decided to sum up the courage and money to buy his first guitar, and never stopped playing it till today. Writing songs that ranged from Punk to Rock to Pop (inspired by legendary great such as The Police, Phil Collins, Blink 182 and Aerosmith just to name a few), Gab also found a similar passion, but in the bass guitar; taking after his idols as a child. Now armed with the passion and commitment to make themselves heard, all they needed was the last piece of the puzzle; a drummer. Max Gosselin, a friend a Gab’s was looking to play, and all 3 guys hit it off instantly. Almost everyday the 3 rehearsed in Max’s room, writing and singing about anything that moved them. Their first concert ever was in front of over 800 people, at the young age of 12 years old, for their fellow students after a teacher found them practicing in the local music room. For the next year to come, they kept doing what they loved, no matter what anyone said. Now fast forward to the year 2003, Prolead hit a slump, personal fights between the members caused the departure of Max, and Nick and Gab found themselves without a drummer. For months they searched in and out for someone, and just when they least expected it, Ryan Stevenson asked to play with them. Before they knew it, they were playing shows, recording their own CD’s and promoting their band all over Montreal. Attracting acts almost twice their ages, sharing the stage with popular Quebec acts such as Exterio, Suburbs, people were soon taking notice to this young band, seeing an undeniable potential in the songs they were writing. But it wasn’t always good news for Prolead, over the years, their unique style and methods we’re not liked by all. In a scene where heavier the better, weirder the better and down with mainstream was the cool thing, they were criticised for their outstanding passion for bigger and better. They wrote what moved them, they sang about thing they wanted to sing about and nothing else mattered. Even after being underpaid, shot down, rejected by labels, made fun of and were told they were never going to make it, they never gave up. They didn’t care, they never caved in. And that passion and determination paid off. Not only did it attract popular figures such as Terry Dimonte from CHOM 97.7fm, and famous producer guitarist Gary Moffet (formerly of April Wine) to work with them, suddenly people starting taking notice. Even the popular Montreal label Aquarius seemed to see a potential. After the trends started fading, the shows got bigger, and the fans started gathering. In 2005, the band settled their differences with their pal Max, and invited him back into the band on drums, putting Ryan on his other instrument, the guitar. Prolead was now complete. After years of struggling to get noticed, and writing the best songs they could, it was finally Prolead’s time. As they wrote the best songs they had ever written, while playing all over Quebec in place such as Mont-Tremblant and Princeville and almost every club and bar in Montreal including the famous Club Soda, Prolead is still striving to make it. All they ever wanted was to make great music and take it as far as they could ever imagine. To this day, Prolead is still trying, and will someday not only be heard, but change the world of Rock musicjust like they always wanted to
