Project Marv

Project Marv are a group of musicians from different areas attempting to join these varying styles together into a sound all their own. The styles we play include jazz, rock, soul, dance, world, folk, reggae, ska, and so much more.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
The band came into being during the recording of what was going to be Martin "Marv" Quibell's second solo album. After so much was done as a complete band (in contrast to Martin's first album where most songs featured him playing all of the instruments himself), it was decided to make it into a band effort. Martin's love of all forms of music made it into an experimental selection, which used influences from all over the musical spectrum. At present, the first band album (Colours) has been mastered, and artwork is being waited on for the release of the album. We are also working on new material for the follow-up album, presently entitled Different Perspectives. This will feature songs written by most (if not all) members of the group, rather than Colours, which was basically Martin's songs.
Your musical influences
Black Sabbath, Massive Attack, Ozric Tentacles, The Jam, Blondie, Madonna, Prince, Sly & The Family Stone, Morcheba, Audioslave, Gorillaz, Rage Against The Machine, Bob Dylan, Fishbone, The Beatles, The Clash, Michael Penn, Aimee Mann, Brand New Heavies, Jamiroquai, Pantera, Far, The Police, Adam & The Ants, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Beach Boys, Simon & Garfunkel, Green Day, Johnny Cash, Chic, Tracy Chapman, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Inxs, Crowded House, Miles Davis, Weather Report, and the list goes on and on and on and ...
Anything else?
We use whatever instruments we can find, be it world instruments (such as tambura, sitar, umbari, etc), conventional (guitars, bass, drums, keyboards), different (tin whistles, differing percussion, harmonica, mandolin, auto-harp, etc), and even use samples and loops if necessary. The most important thing is the song itself, no matter how it's reached!
