We are a 4 piece hard rock band from Birmingham England. We consist of Cal-Lead Vocals/Lead Guitar, Mart-Lead Guitar/Backing Vocals, Dale-Bass Guitar/Backing Vocals, Conn-Drums. We play all original material, we have a hard hitting sound like no other.
Band/artist history
Prisoners Of War started in late January 2004 with Lee Morris and Martyn Woodley wanting to start a band. They came across the vocals of Callum Smith and he was immediately inducted into the band. Word got out that brothers conn and dale OKeeffe had recently left another band and were looking for a new involvement. Conn and dale accepted the offer and the position of drummer and bassist were filled. The band influenced by a wide range of music conn and cal by grunge with band like nirvana. Lead guitarist lee is influenced by the piecing riffs of slash and Tony Iommi. You can hear this variety in the music they make. The band set out quickly to make their own material and within the first practise had a song they could call their own. Though the band had songs they still had not decided on a final name and went through many different names such as coax. Although a bit sketchy the songs soon developed into real music that people enjoy. On April 23rd P.O.W had their first gig at their school which for the band was very nerve racking. The performance wasnt their best and the band was down heartened, but it gave them the determination to prove critics wrong and show people that they are an amazing band. They worked on there songs and later in may recorded for the first time. This first CD gave them the push they needed. shortly after the recording of the CD the was approached by garath who wanted to managed them they agreed. They soon had gig lined up for a party in a friends garden. The band had a helping hand from manager garath and the sound was fantastic and so was the music. The crowd had a great time as did the band. This gave the band a massive lift. The band hit the studio continuously and made lots of songs and were ready to record again at the beginning of July. They recorded and the CD was amazing (Patch Sutton). The band then signed up to BURBS (British under ground rock bands) to help promote them around Britain. The band then handed the CD into a local pub the Actress n Bishop and had a gig arranged for 9th July for the 1st birthday gig of the Actress n Bishop. P.O.W were given the opening act. They played an amazing half hour set. P.O.W headlined their first gig at the Actress and Bishop on 25th November the night was a total success and the band played excellently. The band continue to play many gigs now and are entered in the Emergenza battle of the bands, and are through to the semi-final stage on the 29th of May 2005.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
We've played many live gigs, in Birmingham pubs and clubs. Giging is the best part for us, without we'd be nothing. Special moment was getting through at emergenza Battle of the bands, and beating off stiff compotitino from bands twice our age.
Your musical influences
Our sound is very hard hitting, with catchy riffs and easy to sing vocal lines. The band is influences by many different types of music and different bands, with Cal and Conn being huge Nirvana fans, this adds a grungey dirty sound to the band, but with Lee's obsession with the likes of slash and tony iommi, we get blistering solos and riffs come over the top. mart with his brit pop backgrounds, adds that into the bands and song making proccess, and dale with his bass influenced by thin lizzy's phil lynott
