President Gas
President Gas is a New Zealand band exploring the limits of "three chords and the truth" - on that elusive search for the perfect song. So much of what we hear today is manufactured. President Gas is the real deal.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
President Gas is Scott Wylie, Paul Lee, Barry White (not that one!) and Ben White. These guys have played together in various NZ bands (Shadow Fax, Tokyo, Secret Egypt) and incarnations over the years.
Now all returned to Wellington they have formed President Gas. The band was, initially, just some fun. A chance to get together and jam a few select covers, let off some steam. But as always, the idea of doing something original soon surfaced.
It is, quite deliberately, no-nonsense guitar rock. Keeping it simple.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
Yes - we love playing live though we are pretty selective about where and when we play - we've all been playing in live bands for quite a few years.
Your musical influences
Hmmmm...anything from Bowie to Radiohead, Simple Minds to Supergrass, Tom Petty to the Stones...too many to mention.
What equipment do you use?
Fender Strat and Telecaster, Peavy and Marshall amps
