Poverty of Speech
My name is Charles a.k.a Marathon and my new CD is titled "Poverty of Speech".
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
I started writing poetry about 12 years ago and I decided in 2005 to start free-styling to beats and I altered my poems to fit rap beats. I started writing more on a lyrical basis and not just lines of poetry.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
I'll be doing a live gig on the 31st of July at Sutra Lounge. I'm just getting out some DEMO Cd's and getting the word out. More shows will come.
Your musical influences
NWA Slick Rick DMX Public Enemy Eminem Bekay Pharaoh Monch and Immortal Technique just to name a few
What equipment do you use?
I record at AWR Studios in the Mile High Studio's building. At home I use a little Sonar and Fruity Loops but I'm not very good at making beats. Sonar is fun and I do enjoy making remixes of things.
Anything else?
Fuck these people that think certain types of people can't make it. I get tired of hearing the same Ghetto remembrances and gang life stuff. I was raised in the projects of Paducah, KY but it's not the only part of my life to draw from. I'm also not fond of coffee shop revolutionaries or people that love to talk about recording but never write anything. It's great to dream of things but at some point you've GOT TO GET BUSY with the real work of writing. Poets come in all shapes and sizes. Get another glass of hateraide and get ready for the revolution. And I love my cat Theo.
