Mercy (rhythmic ballad style) Mercy (rhythmic ballad style)
Mercy Mercy
Inspired by The Scandal of Grace section (pp. 212-224) of The Ragamuffin Gospel by Brennan Manning (2005, Multnomah)
Where Are All the People? Where Are All the People?
The title and the music came together for this song. 'Where are all the people?' comes from the time one Sunday in Portland, OR, when almost all the churches seemed to cancel services. The snow and ice was considered dangerous for driving.
I Will Show I Will Show
A song about God's unconditional (agape) love working within human relationships.
God Will Provide God Will Provide
This is not so subtle, a quite blatant message that God provides. The lines are collected from verses in the bible: Matt 6:33, Eph 3:20, Gen 22:8; John 15:7, Phil 4:19, Ps 23:1; Gen 22:14, John 14:2, Rev 21:4
Just Enough Just Enough
Basically, the elements of faith are like the mustard seed. Though faith increases, it starts with just enough. Faith is conviction, given by God.
Love and Truth Love and Truth
In the bible, there seems to be a tension between such things as Mercy and Righteousness, and Love and Truth. It seems only God can weave these sometimes, opposing points into the fabric of life.
Fear of the Lord Fear of the Lord
Pickin' Out Bones (revised) Pickin' Out Bones (revised)
About discernment: Besides I Thess 5:21, other verses are Matt 14:47-48, Luke 4:18-19, I Col 1:12-, 3:4, 4:6, II Cor 4:2-6, I Tim 1, 4, 6, Phil 1:15-19, and the other many verses about false teaching and prideful teachers, "beware ...".
Look Up Look Up
The message: We are not alone in this world. Or perhaps, there is Someone closer and in touch than our mobile device.
Goodwill Rag Goodwill Rag
Technically, this is not a Rag, though the rhythm is. Think of this as something Butch Thompson might perform on Prairie Home Companion radio show. The percussive piano backing also reminds me of Bob Bodet and the Motel 6 theme.
If At First If At First
persistence in prayer - Luke 11 and 18, Rom 8:28, 1Thes 5:17, Matt 7:7-8
Make Up (sax) Make Up (sax)
The subject is being reconciled. This is a person to person, horizontal making up with each other. Although God isn't mentioned, the song is biblical (see Matt 5:24, Luke 12:55).
Stand Stand
Standing up for principles and convictions -standing our ground - standing up for the Lord
