Band/artist history
Planes Mistaken for Stars formed in Peoria, IL from the ashes of the band Dismiss. Planes original line up, which is still 3/4's intact (save the bass position), originally consisted of singer/guitarist Gared O'Donnell, guitarist Matt Bellinger, bassist Aaron Wise and drummer Mike Ricketts. Their first record, an eight song EP full of emotive rock that delicately balanced beautiful melodies with torchered screams was released by the band in 1998 before being reissued by indie label Deep Elm the following year. Aaron Wise was soon replaced by bassist Jamie Drier, and the new incarnation of PMFS left their hometown to live in an old crack house in Denver, CO (seriously). Deep Elm then released their second EP titled Knife in the Marathon in January of 2000. This time the band traded in a hint of beauty for a full onslaught of in your face melodic punk & hardcore that is best experienced during a storm or on your way to a bar fight. After extensive touring, PMFS decided to work with Florida indie label No Idea for their release of F_ck With Fire, a full length assault on the senses which displayed a an even darker, heavier, and rawer side of PMFS. In late 2002 PMFS bounced back with the 3 song EP titled Spearheading The Sin Movement, also released on No Idea, that picked up right where the intensity of F_ck With Fire left off. In mid 2003, bassist Jamie Drier left the band after one final tour. Long time friend, and former member of Peralta, Chuck French took his place. PMFS are currently taking a break after 5 years of constant touring to write their next record, and plan to strike back in the spring of 2004.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Planes Mistaken For Stars started touring in 1998 and barely ever stop. They've been on tour with bands such as Converge, The Ataris, The Casket Lottery, Thursday, Avail, Small Brown Bike, and many others. However, to truly experience PMFS, catch them when they are on a headlining tour in a shady little club... or even a basement.
