PHILLIP HARDY BIOGRAPHY
Phillip Hardy plays contemplative, adult alternative rock music. His style incorporates jazz, blues, Latin and Americana, crossing conventional boundaries ranging from Santana/Sting flavored tunes to Peter Murphy and Roxy Music sounding alternative power pop. The year 2004 has been a great year for his musical endeavors. Since releasing his new Album, Old Dog, New Tricks, the response has been remarkable.
Reviewer: Kevin Mathews of Fufkin Magazine says:
Phillip Hardy Old Dog, New Tricks (Self-released) "this is an expanded version of a 3-track EP, which Hardy released a little earlier in the year. The inclusion of songs like the lively "Youth," the robust "Western World" and the exuberant "Season of Faith" which together with the sanguine vibe of "Bourbon Street," the country-folk musing of "She's the One" and the upbeat "The Drift" make for a value-for-money acquisition."
Reviewer: Colin Lynch of Scouts Digest Magazine says:
Let your good ears stand to attention to admire accomplished vocals and lyrics that share the same bed as an astonishing 'big sixties' sound production! That basically sums up Phillip E Hardy's Old Dog, New Tricks, an album that swings between subtle pop/rock and Latino genres and adult oriented satirical audiophilia. Mr. Hardy's vocal style that is somewhat reminiscent of Gene Pitney, Roy Orbison, PJ Proby, Tom Jones, Bryan Ferry, and Chris Issak, all coming out of one mouth!"
His Americana ballad, Shes the One (STO) has been number one on the at Soundclick, Besonic and on the New Artist Radio top forty show, where the shows host Theda Messick called his singing phenomenal. His alternative song Promising a Miracle has been number one at Besonic and Funender and was recently number three at Soundclick. He has also had number songs with The Drift, Rain on the Window and House of fire at multiple mp3 sites.
On February, 15, Phillip was asked to play drums for legendary blues performer Guitar Shorty and the Andy T Band at a benefit concert for an LA blues DJ. He recently played two gigs for blues honk sax player Joe Houston and Albert King guitar disciple LA Jones. Gary Wagman Wagner (Former host of Nothing but the Blues on KJAZZ radio) has invited Phillip to play with his all star blues band in February of 2003; and in July at his request, he backed up Melvin Eddy, Johnny Tucker, Jill Sharpe and Andy T and the following week appeared with Jill in the upcoming independent film, Invasion of the Freedom Snatchers.
Phillip is also becoming a well known music journalist. Recently, he has written reviews about new records from Loretta Lynn, Neil Young, Bob Weir and Marshall Tucker Band for Sound the Sirens Magazine. In addition, he is writing a CD review column for new artist radio and is the top reviewers and music scouts for Besonic.com.
Phillip Hardy has experienced the Los Angeles music scene working the best showcase clubs, including the Whiskey, Roxy, Troubadour, Starwood and Madame Wongs, leading his own band and playing with several others. Phil has recorded tracks with Walter Egan of Magnet and Steel fame. He also recorded a demo with Marvin Etzioni, founding member of Lone Justice. As a drummer, he was once invited by a Chrysalis record executive to audition for Billy Idol. He also auditioned for Eddie Money, upon invitation from his bassist Ralph Carter, who overheard Phillip recording a drum track at a LA studio. Phillip played live and recorded with Dino Archon and Robbie Robb, former members of the popular South African band the Asylum Kids. He also worked with songwriter Chris Fradkin, who co-wrote A Million Miles Away for the Plimsouls. Their band opened for LA favorites like the Motels, Rank and File and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. His demo tapes were aired on both KLOS Local Licks and Best of Local Licks. In a club review of Bill Grisolia and the Attachments, Music Connection Magazine said, "Phil Hardy's timing is as precise as the tick tock of Big Ben and rocks like a runaway renegade."
In addition to his musical background, Phillip holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from University of Phoenix and a Master of Management Degree from University of Redlands.Have you performed in front of an audience?I recently played live with Guitar Shorty, The Lively Ones, Big Harmonica Bob, The Flower Machine and The Barnburners.
