PHAT A$$ RECORD$, l.l.c. is here!! Starting with an idea and a dream... that is still all it is!
This magical label was founded in 2000 by Phunk Masta Phat, El Bobo Rey, and Mike Vicious.. They signed themselves and created the super-group 'Z Effective'. Z Effective feature artistic contributions from guitarists Jacob "Big Cat" Crawford, Bob W. J.Dubbz, percussion by Knife Strauze, and additional vocals on various songs by MK.McG (sister).
All of these artist have flourishing solo endeavors with the lable. Check them out!
Mike V is also a member of Iowa City's super-group A.V.Collective !!! AVC also features the talents of David The Saint, Dekin Don, and DJ Enliven. All of the AV members have blessed the Phat A$$ $tudios. Saint is founder and owner of Halo Red Ent., a project very much like Phat A$$. Dekin is the mastermind behind G.A.M.E. (get at me entertainment). DJ Enliven runs his own music services. Together, these four men put on an amazing show that promises to come to a town near you soon!
New members of the Phat A$$ PHAMily are emerging by the month!
Look out for ILLTH - the funk/metal/experimental hybrid featuring the Bass Guru DENNIS WENDT, and the outrageous vocal stylings of WAREK. Mike V is also a part of this group, providing ambient keys, turntable, and percussion along with additonal vocals.
More than just music, Phat A$$ offers all kind of entertainment........ ready or not, stand-up comedian CHAD "silly" FOUNTAIN has completed his first comedy album "I Shoulda Kept My Mouthshut" available on Phat A$$ Rec$! He is the mastermind behind 'The Pet My Pony Show' that features live stand-up with sound effects dropped by DJ Mike V and musical interludes by the Bass Guru himself. Awesome.
Coming up we got Ewol 9! Ewol9 completed his own [EP] 'Apt 2' in summer of '07 on his own lable, Makeshift Ent. That [EP] is now distributed by Phat A$$ plus there is a new collaboration to bring you his first full-length later this year!
MC/producer PUREST has been working hard in the Phat A$$ Studios, compiling track after track - soon to be an album's worth.. get my drift?
T.Murph of Jap Out Boyz is coming through to get that professional sound at next-to-nothing prices that only PHAT A$$ can provide in this area!!! Chi-town represent. Keep your ear to the ground.. new sh*t to be released soon!
Singer/songwriter David Beck is now putting together a demo on the Phat A$$ lable. There is also talks of a colabo with Mike V! should be interesting...
