Paul Robinson
Paul Robinson has toured extensively nationally and internationally, and has built a successful performing and recording career as a lead guitarist with luminaries like folk-swing inventor Dan Hicks, pop icon Al Stewart, Romeo Void's Debora Iyall, and the Gypsy jazz band, the Hot Club of San Francisco.Ê Robinson has added his signature guitar sound to at least a dozen albums ranging from pop and rock to jazz and beyond, and has produced several CDs including "Sweet".Ê Additionally, he has shared the stage with Don Was, Bob Weir, David Sanborn, Steve Winwood and has opened for such greats as Joni Mitchell, Joan Osborne, Dave Mason and Roger McGuinn.
In the title track of his debut CD "Sweet," Paul Robinson presents the dilemma of finding love amidst the impersonal climate of the new millenium: "Life in the Zeroes finds things not the same... Is there someone sweet for me?" The cover of "Sweet" echoes this duality: Robinson's kind but challenging gaze is mirrored by a backdrop of storm clouds - dark, yet multi-colored. The San Francisco Bay Area artist, who is known as an amazingly versatile lead guitarist, may surprise his fans with this CD of mainly vocal pop tunes with potent lyrics.
His songs are powerful narratives of the last decade: "The Personals" tracks love in the want ads, "Fallen," a tale of a man's fall from grace, could be sung by Clinton himself, "F.U." decries the harsh contradictions of Hollywood ("Prettiest ugliness you've never seen...") Robinson's new material has been called Steely Dan meets Dire Straits for his sophisticated arrangements amid solid rock grooves. He has also been compared to Eric Clapton for the way he blends scary-great guitar solos with his solid baritone voice. While Robinson produced and played most of the instruments on "Sweet", his talent is acknowledged by guest appearances from virtuoso saxophonist David Sanborn, bassist Benny Rietveld (Carlos Santana), Dan Hicks, Al Stewart and drummer Prairie Prince (Jefferson Starship, Todd Rundgren, The Tubes).Admin
