Paul Guerra
Christian rock with a taste of folk.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
I love to play live in venues where people do not typically hear Christian music. There is nothing more gratifying than to know that your music has touched somebody in a positive way . . . Made them think about their own lives or their own beliefs. One of the most special moments I can remember was playing a rock cover song in a bar/nightclub and, out of nowhere, launching into a small set of praise and worship music. The audience all stood up and sang along to the songs. It was a very moving and positive experience.
Your musical influences
Influenced musically by acoustic artists such as Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Edwin McCain, and Dave Matthews. Influenced lyrically by artists such as Jars of Clay, Jennifer Knapp, dc Talk, Third Day, Delerious?, and Alltogether Separate.
What equipment do you use?
Guitars: Alvarez, Ovation, Samick, Stratocaster and Les Paul. My acoustic guitars all have been reconfigured with Fishman pickups and active electronics. I recently started using the H20 chorus/delay pedal and find that it is one of the best effects units I have ever used for an acoustic guitar. When playing electric, I like to run through a ToneWorks pedal. Vocally, SM58 is still the microphone of choice, although I have started experimenting with ND/767s. I use SM57s to mic cabinets and percussion instruments. As far as harmonicas, I still think that nothing quite beats a Blues Harp for the overall sound a playability.
Anything else?
God has blessed me with the ability to write and perform music that has a message. I hope and pray that those who have the opportunity to hear the music will take someting away that will improve their own life as well as their relationship with Jesus Christ.
