Paul Collins Beat contains Paul Collins from The Nerves. One of the first U.S. punk bands, The Nerves originally wrote and recorded Hanging On The Telephone, which became a huge hit for Deborah Harry and Blondie when they recorded it for the "Parallel Lines" album. After The Nerves disbanded, Paul Collins formed The Beat, also known as Paul Collins Beat.
Band/artist history
In his bands The Beat and The Nerves, Paul Collins has toured with acts such as The Ramones, The Police, The Jam, Stray Cats, Joe Jackson, Huey Lewis And The News, Pere Ubu and The Specials.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
We tour primarily in the U.S., Japan, Spain, UK, Italy and Australia. It's still a big part of my life and I hope to tour until the day I die. Our fans seem to be getting younger every year, which isn't typical of most bands who've be around this long. The best moment I had was touring with The Ramones. I became good friends with Dee Dee Ramone on that tour in the 70s. He was very supportive over the years and a genuinely nice guy. Dee Dee was always alot of fun and had a big heart. May he rest in peace.
Your musical influences
Ray Charles, Tommy James, The Beatles, Ryan Adams, 60s motown, Hank Williams, Sex Pistols, Diana Ross
What equipment do you use?
Paul Collins Beat play Fender guitars, Fender bass guitars, Rickenbacker guitars, Fender amplifiers, Vox amplifiers, Marshall amplifiers, Fender guitar strings, Ernie Ball bass strings, Ludwig drums and Remo heads.
Anything else?
I've been told before that Green Day and Everclear have covered our songs, which is really cool.
