Well let's see. I have been playing acoustic guitar for 12 years, or playing "at" it. You decide. Been singing since I learned how to talk. Just finished competing in WCOPA 2010 in LA and it was so neat playing worship songs with other countries and Trinidad! Shout to Jessie and the others in Trinidad- you guys are awesome!
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Church worship band, about four years. Playing with my Mama singing old hymns, high school years. High school choir, 4-5 years. Loved it. WCOPA 2010- 7 bronze medals and 2 silver medals. That felt pretty good.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
I was on the worship team and hope to get back to that sometime. I miss the simplicity. I want to write some more. Special moments? Wow, life has been really sifting me lately, so... special moments ... I have so many of them. I can only think of Ruth and how she put oil on her head before she went down to go see Boaz. There's a story in that, but let's just say that it has something to do with my wedding day. Also special moments included watching my kid hold her own as a performer against adults and bring in 9 medals at WCOPA... that''s a big one for me. LOL Playing guitar and singing worship songs by the campfire at my honey's house. That's a very special moment, too, and when friends come over from church, it's even better!
Your musical influences
My musical influences? My Mama. She taught me to play acoustic guitar in high school. My high school choir teacher, Mr. McKenzie-Sullivan. My kid is now in his school. That's so funny! Anything with black people singing. No racial slander meant, I just love their music. Black full gospel especially. Love mass choirs, love Whitney Houston, Cece Winans, Boys II Men, Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir, Georgia Mass Choir, anything from Sister Act and Sister Act II- MAN I love that soundtrack! I love all genres of music, from the stuff listed above, to punk, ska, Satriani, jazz (yes, even jazz... although I hate to admit it), country, country gospel, hard rock, classic rock, oldies but goodies (I still got some dusty records of Elvis, Johnny Cash, and Patsy Cline under my bed), contemporary Christian, alternative Christian, Casting Crowns... There isn't much I DON'T like, but because I love Jesus and want to stay close to Him... I stick to Christian stuff whenever possible. I like the other stuff, but it reminds me of that "old" life and gets me fired up and I wanna go dancing or something and... I just need to shut that down so... we stay w the Christian stuff and keep my eyes on GOD, not the world. That's the plan, anyways. LOL
What equipment do you use?
Acoustic guitar Keyboard Cool Edit Pro editing program.
Anything else?
Drop me a line if you'd like to play sometime, that would be fun. Got any advice on selling songs as a songwriter? Do's or not to do's? For instance, does a person HAVE to tour and play gigs to promote their music if they just want to be a songwriter and stay in the background????
