Progressive Metal

"Pathless Land is an idea that has its roots in ideas from many years ago, when I was in my formative years getting into the European metal bands and artists ranging from Blind Guardian to Emperor and In Flames. I also was simultaneously getting into more progressive artists such as Genesis and also had already explored bands such as Pink Floyd or other more "space" or "experimental" offerings. In 2010, I decided to quit my previous band "Tempest Eternal". Reasons both personal and musical, but mainly with a desire to expand musical horizons and keep the musical eclecticism that both Tempest and the previous incarnation "Cyclic Creation" had promised. The current lineup of Tempest was committed to a different musical direction than I, and the band was not the same as the one the previous lineup was. . I had ideas for a side project with total creative control for awhile, and also a project/band where my vocal aspirations were realized as well. With this in mind, I decided to quit. Pathless Land is a result of a desire to realize these musical aspirations, and though it is only a seed of what is to come, I am very happy that the debut EP has been finished. Pathless is an outlet for all of my musical dreams, goals and aspirations I have had since I was very young, and even though it may have some very wide ranging wanderings musically, I feel that some of the elements in the songs, whether it'd be the synth/midi sounds, or the sound of my voice, can create coherence. Other bands can play songs with similar structures and similar visions- and sometimes this can be calculated or just having a vision of a limited musical breadth. My musical ideas with Pathless are ambitious, but I feel that subconsciously, certain patterns DO emerge and there is a scope even if its a wider ranging one (at least for metal). Direction within the directionless, structure within the chaos. The songs on the ep are power metal, a more spacey ballad type song, and a melodic technical death metal song. I feel that this encompasses a basic sketch of what Pathless will be about; a certain traditionalism but let loose with different smears of post-progressiveness."

What equipment do you use?
"I use Mixcraft, Beatcraft, Ez Drummer (moreso in the future), Sonar 5, Isotope Ozone, all sorts of midi plug ins, Peavey 5150, an old ass Behringer V-amp Pro, and all sorts of guitars, my favorites being my old Jackson Dinky with a Air Norton in the neck and a Dimarzio Dropsonic in the bridge (though I flipped it around since its normal tuning now). I also have an old Peavey Destiny Custom with Duncan Distortion and a lil 59 and a Ibanez RG with Dimarzio Steves Special and Air Norton. I also have a few other guitars I might be rolling out for more shit, AND a Ibanez 7 string with stock pickups which aren't TOO terrible."
