ParaMaya
Paramaya is a name derived from middle and far eastern philosophies, namely Buddhism and Hinduism. Translated it means "Beside The Illusion". Paramaya is a three piece Power Trio hailing from Baton Rouge, Louisiana and specializing in Hard Rock and Alternative with multiple other styles sewn throughout. Their music has been frequently described as "dark" and has also been called "Philosophy Rock". You could compare Paramaya's music to that of The Melvins, Alice In Chains, Type O Negative, Tool, Nirvana, Black Sabbath, Sound Garden, Stone Temple Pilots, Agents Of Oblivion, etc.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
3 likeminded individuals that came together as a musical unit. Incubated in our small town for a number of years and ready to break out at the first opportunity. Feel free to approach us, email us, message us, etc... we don't bite. Any and all feedback is appreciated. It's all about communication.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
Parmaya prides themselves on their live performances and will play anywhere and everywhere that would have them.
Your musical influences
All genres of music, history, philosophy, religion, art, technology, etc... You name it. We're attempting to express ourselves the best we can.
What equipment do you use?
Fender, Gibson, Epiphone, and Dean guitars. Gallien-Krugger bass amps, Peavey guitar amps, Hughs & Ketner guitar amps, Fender guitar amps, Pearl drums, Sabian and Paiste cymbals, Alesis electronics, Korg synths and keyboards, DR strings, etc....
Anything else?
On a more "down to earth" note, we are simply a few musicians inspired by philosophical concepts, personal experience, and our own mental imagery. as far as other music goes, we are inspired by only a small number of new bands within the past couple of years, we are mostly inspired by the music of yore. From the mid-90s "grunge" movement, to Beethovan and Mozart, to any of the great and talented death metal/black metal bands and even the music that defies convention, such as Mr. Bungle, John Zorn and The Melvins. Our tastes span a variety of different flavors and our intent is plain and simple: to play music we can FEEL, and hope to inspire others through the lyrics and atmosphere it creates.
