Panic Stations
No need to Panic, Oh wait...
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
PANIC STATIONS! Now you’re talking! Easily the most defining moment in world history, it’s PANIC STATIONS! Formed in the year only-God-knows-when, PANIC STATIONS! is a four piece band from Derry, in the north of Ireland. It has had a long and perilous history, and here it goes. Fergus O’ Doherty and Ciaran Mullen were friends in their third year at Lumen Christi College, Derry. He had been learning guitar and was getting pretty good, and Fergus had been renowned for his, ahem, “singing ability” since coming third in the school karaoke. Ciaran was setting up a band with his long term bassist friend, Nathan. He asked Fergus had he wanted to join as singer, and reluctant at first, he said no. But then Fergus had divine inspiration and for the betterment of the world felt he had to join the band. That Godsend band lasted for one week, when Ciaran and Fergus decided to leave and do their own thing. It took a while, but they convinced friend Paul Tierney to buy a bass guitar and join their new line up. This was good timing, as the schools third year end of music project was coming up, and this gave them time to practice. They blew the minds of all who seen them perform their version of Nirvana’s “About a Girl,” including their music teacher Mr. Bradley, who’d previously cited that the members, especially Fergus, had the all the musical talent of a brick. It’s ok though, even the Beatles were rejected at first. This brought on the golden age of the band, who then went through a million different names, including “Vice Versa, Paul Of The Future, Airplay” and so on. But after a while, Paul became possessed it seems, and strayed away to the devilment that was rap music. He was quickly disposed of, and Nathan came back. And a certain Peter Devine stepped in as drummer. It became obvious however, that his strabane roots were plaguing the bands rep, and so they turned to Steve, another drummer. Sorry, Peter. Now a proud member of 2002 Garage Scene Revival Check them out! So here we are, after the disappearance of Nathan (no joke, he wasn’t seen for like a month) a newly “rockignised” (instead of recognised, geddit?) Paul was taken back. An ad in the nerve centre brought about the addition of the new drummer, Tia. Such classics have been written since then, like Leave It Out and Riots (at the viper room) and the good years of rock and/ or roll anarchy has ensued.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
Any offer on any gigs?
We were to do our first gig a few days from now, but then our guitarist broke his wrist!
