Other Sam
It's always hard to classify a band, but this combination works well: great tunes, punchy to-the-point songs, fantastic riffs, interesting lyrics and an eclectic range. This is Other Sam. Oh, and LOTS AND LOTS of original material.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
In a nutshell: Steve, Andrew and Matt got together in the summer of 96 and started writing songs. Once at Uni in Edinburgh in 98 they recruited Scott on drums and Cathy on vocals; after some shuffling, the final line up of Steve, Andrew, Iain, Cathy, Dave and Scott emerged. We've got about three album's worth of material and we rock live. Check us out.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
We've played live in most of the venues around Edinburgh (The Venue, Cas Rock, Potterow, Teviot, Subway etc.) Of course we like it, although sometimes the trick is fitting all six of us on stage at once. I really wonder how larger bands manage! I think a general special moment is just when people start singing along to your songs. That's a fantastic feeling.
Your musical influences
It's harmonic guitar music, rock at core but varying from acoustic ballads to more hard-edged stuff. Our trademarks are our three-harmony choruses and our snappy, tight, memorable songs. Think maybe a mix of Radiohead, REM, Pumpkins and that special ingredient that we can't name for patent reasons.
What equipment do you use?
Electric paper & comb.
Anything else?
We're great. And so modest. No, really, you'd like us if you met us.
