Band/artist history
The GgLITCH is a TECHNOFUNKROCK band from Iowa City that plays experimental rock, funk and jazz in a uniquely energetic and powerful way.. The band got started in Ames, Iowa in 1998, when Brian Cretzmyer, a classically trained pianist and Acid-pro techno guru met Ty Byerly(singer/songwriter/entrepeneur) and Casey Coppi (bassist) on the Iowa State Campus. Several wild basement jam sessions later the core of the band emerged from a fountain of booze, smoke, and sound. From the start, humor, friendship, sonic experimentation and unicality and an uncompromisingly intense improv became the defining characteristics of the band. The group started playing on a weekly basis, and playing at bars around Ames, including People's Bar. After several transient changes in drummers, and aquiring Otar as their guitarist, the band ended up on the U of Iowa campus music scene. Here, the band continued refining its sound and writing original material, and soon became favorites at the Green Room , Yacht Club, and other local venues, with a growing fan base. In 2006, the Gglitch added another great member to the lineup, a talented bassist Byron Stevens, who's versatility and great musical ear have propelled the Gglitch to new improv heights. Gglitch concerts draw a young audience for a night of feel-good, structurally interesting, brutally percussive and often melodically dissecting music in a seamless salad of different styles, including funk, rock, reggae, jazz, bluegrass, and circus oohmpa. Interwoven in the risk-taking, demonstrative musicianship and catchy original compositions, the Gglitch serves up a tasty gumbo of hard-swinging rockish covers, by heroes including the Doors, Zappa, Beatles, as well as an occasional jazz standard like Song For My Father, or a silly TV show theme song toodle.
