The Hispanic community of New York has millions of "Boricuas", Dominicans, Cubans, and other Latinos. Manolin Gonzalez and his Orquesta Tambora have brought the public a new sound that reflects the musical tastes of the entire community. The incredible popularity of this music is based on the versatility of the rhythm that contains a rich mix of charanga and merengue. Manolin studied music with his father as a child. He continued his studies with Rafael Ignacio, a famous Dominican composer and later in various universities and conservatories. Manolin participated with Johnny Ventura and came to New York with bands run by Chuito Velez, Machito, Rafael Cortijo, and Ismael Rivera. Apart from being a producer and arranger, he also sings and plays the sax, clarinet, flute and percussion. Manolin says, "I appreciate all that I have learned with Rafael Cortijo and Ismael Rivera. Also I appreciate the support of the public and I want to dedicate the "Eso Si Me Gusta A Mi" album to my beloved Latino community." -- Adela Lopez, editor Latin NY Magazine
