takes you on a trip back in time. In a single moment you will find yourself attending that little white church. You will clap your hands and stomp your feet to the beat of the music. It reaches into your soul! Join in, sing along and praise the Lord.
The Oriskany Strings hails from the little mountain village of Oriskany, Virginia located about 40 miles west of Roanoke. The band was formed in 1997 to perform and promote old-time country and bluegrass music.
We are currently promoting our first album - "Mostly Gospel." This is a tribute album to little mountain churches and was created to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the little mountain church in Oriskany. We are donating half our profits to renovate and maintain that charming church.
The band was formed in 1997 to perform and promote old-time country and bluegrass music.
We play live at churches, reunions, picnics, festivals, senior citizen homes and private parties in the Roanoke, VA and surrounding areas.
The Carter Family has been a great influence on our band and all mountain/bluegrass music. Many fans say we sound like the Carter Family and the old Chuck Wagon Gang. We have a lead male vocalist who sound like palin country folk and two femail vocalist who have amazing harmony.
All of our instruments are acoustic. We have a guitar, two banjos (one played bluegrass style and one played old-time clawhammer style), an autoharp and a 2-string wahtub bass that really plays musical notes.
