ONE SON: R&B/Soul Music with a deep Hip Hop influenceBand/artist history
ONE SON: R&B/Soul with a deep Hip Hop influence; smooth, strong vocals with powerful lyrics are the essence of this student of music. He is a disciple of the “soul movement” within the music industry.
Aside from being a vocalist, ONE SON is a well-rounded artist. Born Victor-Leland Sambale Acosta, Honolulu, Hawaii, this R&B/Soul singer is a break from the typical music artists of today. With his singing/songwriting/producing abilities he is a voice that will make an impact to the necessary change within the music industry.
While living a portion of his childhood on the East Coast, he primarily was raised in San Diego, CA. Since birth, he was surrounded by the music of legends like Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, Elton John, and Nat King Cole, later inspired by the likes of New Edition, Boyz II Men, Troop, and Jodeci. At a very young age music moved him, especially, Popular Music, R&B, and Hip Hop. If he wasn’t B-Boy’n with the other kids in the neighborhood, he was singing in the school choir. As time progressed, he learned to play the saxophone where he discovered his appreciation for Jazz Music.
Putting all of the pieces together, ONE SON is an artist bred from the influences of music and life experiences. He is a true lyricist, an advocate for deep felt lyrics and songs possessing beats and melodies that move the soul. He prides himself on making positive music about life, love, and relationships. With them he feels in unison, thus, the name ONE SON. As a spiritual person, the name takes on different meanings such as one Son of God, he is one Son of the Lord, and there is one sun that shines upon this world.
After the 2002 independent release of the first maxi single “Just One of Those Nights” ONE SON, now with Sleeping Giant Music began production of his first EP entitled Long Overdue. Look for production by Fresh One and A. Yambao, with guest appearances from Blest (Self Sounds), Quayluds (Blitzkrieg Militia), and Taboo da Sweet. The EP will be a collection of songs birthed from his notebooks, spanning the mid 90's to the present, music that ONE SON felt could not go unheard. The EP is due out Fall 2004.
ONE SON and the music are continually growing. Keep your ears open and you’ll hear that the fruit is ripeHave you performed in front of an audience?Yeah, I perform live! It's one of the things I do best. I love feelin the energy from the audience and givin back! A lot of people have told me I sound better live than on recordings. I think that's a compliment. And it's true I know the mic and the stage more than a recording booth! I've done most of my shows in my hometown, San Diego, CA, and a few shows in L.A. and San Francisco even Hawaii. I'm definitely itchin' to get state to state and overseas. Just grindin for opportunities.
