ONE SIDE, RED BIO:
When asked to classify the style of One Side, Red the answer is usually, We play music. Reason being is that One Side, Red isnt just a punk band or a rock band, and they dont want to get carelessly thrown into a scene due to the opinions of others.
One Side, Red is actually a mix of old school punk, new school pop punk, hardcore punk and rock mixed with melodic vocals. There influences arent easy to pick out by listening to their music either sense they range from AFI, New Found Glory, Operation Ivy, Rush, NOFX, Finch and David Bowie. Such musically diverse backgrounds blend together almost magically into one band and it shows in the music.
One Side, Red tries to go outside the box and break the boundaries that separate the different styles of punk rock by playing an assortment of styles of punk and rock. There music comes from the heart and no song is just thrown together, thought is put into every lyric and every guitar riff and drumbeat is put together to emphasis the feeling and mood of the song. From the songs Just One Time and Mistakes, which are about the after effects of drug use, the song One More Thing which is about growing up and suffering from neglect, or the lighthearted Tell Em Steve-Dave and Do You Remember That Episode? which are about the bands favorite movies and television shows, each song is put together with the intention of making it good, not just to have another song.
One Side, Red has been in the making for over four years it just took all of the right factors to bring the bands future full circle. In the beginning there were two young musicians, Ryan and Chad, playing in a pop punk band called 80-D. The band was mostly just for fun but after a while Chad and Ryan began to get serious about there music, but unfortunately the band broke up and the two musicians went there separate ways.
Ryan started a new hardcore punk band called The Aborted and Chad bought a drum machine and started writing acoustic songs. Eventually Chad started another band with some local musicians called Five By Five, which was a pop punk band. While attending the local college Ryan ran into Chad as he was exiting his Film Production class and the two began talking about how there other bands had broken up and they were in need of a music fix. They decided to start a new band not sure if there two different styles would clash again like it did in 80-D. Surprisingly the blend of new school and old school punk stylings actually made the band sound more diverse and original. Ryan got Dane the old drummer from The Aborted and Chad got Alex the old bass player from Five By Five and finally the band was complete. They began playing local shows and cut there debut EP titled, Sparkle Motion.
