One Human Minute
One Human Minute is Michael Hamilton (Guitar and Misc.) and Paul Dickow (Drums and Misc.) as mediated through layers of various computer processing and arrangement.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Paul and I (Michael) Grew up together in Moscow Idaho, though never seriously played music together until we both ended up (independently) at the same college in Portland Oregon and started a band (Entertainment) together with another some-time Moscow dweller and her roommate. Since that time 1993 we have both remained in Portland and played in numerous bands all over the genre map, both together (The Fracture Line) and seperatly (The Tomorrow, Emergency, Two Noises, Fontanelle, Nudge, The Momeraths, A John Henry Memorial, and plenty of others I'm forgetting). One Human Minute is the first time that we have worked together as a duo, however, and it is allowing us far greater freedom to hone the musical aesthetic our projects together have always tended towards.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
We have played live a couple of times, both here in Portland, Oregon. It was an interesting experience to try to develop methodologies to translate was was until then a computer editing project into a realtime process. In the end, I think developing live performances has opened up has opened up quite an array of additional techniques and approaches that enrich our process.
The songs labeled as "New" are studio reworkings of songs developed for live performances.
Your musical influences
In terms of this project..
Noisy guitar rock/punk/hardcore
experimental electronics
"post rock"
and probably other things as well
What equipment do you use?
We both have piles of instruments in our houses, many of which show up somewhere in these recordings (guitars, basses, drums, keyboards, piano. Until recently the computer side of things was done on an inherited ancient compaq presaio that really can't handle the software we try to run (Audiomulch, Vegas, Sound Forge, Acid, and a lot of plugins). Recently, however Paul got a new laptop, (which is really what enabled up to start performing live).
Anything else?
All thse songs can be considered works in progress. We welcome any feedback, suggestions, questions you may have.
