I'm Olden White - Indianapolis based rapper and story teller. I make my own beats and write my own stories. I'm old - and I don't try to hide it. This is my debut album and it gives the straight shit about how I got to this point in life... and how much I don't want to be here. Here are a few of the songs off the album:Band/artist history
I, Davey, have played music for years - kind of a behind the scenes guy. I play guitar and keyboards, sing and rap. I'm a pretty good sound engineer and producer, too. Olden White was born in late September, 2006, when I got laid off from my job at the auto parts factory. After spending months looking for another job that paid like that, I realized that I am too old to be considered a "safe bet." I said, "Damn, no one will hire me because I'm old and white. The name just stuck.Have you performed in front of an audience?Yes, anywhere in Indianapolis that will let me, but not as often as I want to. Indy isn't the best place for this kind of music. The stage is at least as good as sex. It is what I was born to do. The other night, a girl, half my age, came on stage and stuffed a dollar in my pants. That was definitely cool. I got to sign a couple of autographs. I felt way big... God I love it. Karaoke shows are a good place to get exposure aroung here. Every bar has it. I burn CD-R's of my songs, without lead vocals, and perform them, one song at a time. Hey, it gets me out there.
Your musical influences
My biggest influence is definitely Dr. Dre. His West Coast vibe was the first rap that actually got me to listen. NWA was good, but when The Chronic came out, I was hooked. Since then, Snoop Dogg and Eminem have become favorites - both of whom were presented by Dr. Dre. He's a f*!#in' musical genious. My biggest dream is to sign with Aftermath... I also dig Xibit's work. He has something to SAY. He's very (not sure how to spell this) cerebral - a lot of thought goes into his rhymes. I respect that. Writing my album, I had 47 pages of rhymes. To me, the Hip-Hop that's coming out now ain't so hip. It's like 2 lines, over and over with a dance beat. Come on! TELL me something! Know what I'm sayin? What equipment do you use?
I have a collection of guitars and basses - including a Jackson RR and an Alverez 5-string bass. I run those through a DigiTech RP300. I have a Korg Triton LE, and a Samson C-01 mic. Recording goes into a Yamaha AW16G, then through a Behringer Ultimizer, a Furman dual 15 band EQ, and a Lexicon MX200 reverb unit into an Alesis MasterLink master disk recorder. I use Monster cable ProLink cables, Acoustic 8 near field monitors, Numark big monitors, and AKG cans. I got 400 watts in a 10 by 10 room. It's cool.Anything else?
Yah, a 40 year old white guy doin' Rap is unusual - but give it a chance. It's takin' off pretty good, here. Give it a listen.
