Ohmu
My name is Fredrik Waara and has been making music since the end of the 80's. Ohmu is mainly a ambient music project, wich has existed since spring 2006. Hopfully alot of nice ambient tunes will come out of it.
Not at the moment. I've been thinking of approaching some lokal clubs, but currently I don't have much of a live set, not in hardware (laptop etc) and not in material (need to finish more songs and make them sort of unified).
Started out listning to Kraftwerk and Jean Michael Jarre in the mid 80's alongside more pop oriented things like Pet Shop Boys and Bad Boys Blue. Later moved on to industry and EBM, with bands like Front 242, Nitzer Ebb etc. Parallell to that I discovered the acid-house and early techno in the end of the 80's. Thats where I'm coming from. Today I consume all sorts of electronica, but rearly remembers the names. Alot of what I consume are unsigned bands. I also listen to a wide variety of non electronica music.
Today I've gone all software. I had a hardware based studio from late 80's till late 90's where I started to move over to software. Two reasons made me make that journey. 1: Computers where becoming increasingly powerful. I remember readng thru a manual for a multieffect and going "this processor is only 1Mhz, my PC operates at 200 tmes that speed" as I had a Pentium 200MMX at the time. My largest sampler (a Akai S1100) had 8Mb of memory compared to my PC with its 32. At that point I started to think of hardware modules as kind of obsolete, but it would take several years for the transition to be complete. 2: Space! My studio took up my entire room. Since I bought a huge vintage mixer (wich according to the seller was once owned by Björn Ulveus of Abba fame) even my bed was occupied and I slept on a matrass on the floor.
After trying out alot of different programs (I had experience of Cubase from my Atari days in the hardware studio) I fell for Fruityloops as it was called at the time. It was fast and very stable and suited my production technique like a glove and I've been using it ever since.
My current setup:
FL_Studio 7.0
Korg Legacy Collection
Izotope Ozone3
Izotope Vinyl (free)
NI Electronic Instruments 2 XT
MDA plugin collection (free)
Metallurgy
Glitch (free)
Replicant
Wusikstation
Alot of Computer Music magazine stuff
etc
Thanx for the reassuring words. Beta was part of an older album I made, but the original was lost so I had to remaster mp3s (this can clearly be heard in some of the 303 action, which is kind of thin) When they where made I used alot of the free MDA plugins. Simple multiband tapedistortion and compression. And everything was sent thru Izotope Vinyl on a subtle setting. They where remastered mainly using Izotope Ozone3. Today hardly any track leaves without passing thru it. It simply ROCKS and I highly recommend it to any computerbased musician.hey man, I like your sound.. its very unique and extremelly clean... what are you using for mastering? Everything is so crisp and detailed. I liked both versions of Beta, but tend to lean torward the first mix. I really dig your artistic soul, keep on keepin on and if you have a chance check me out...
