Hailing from Charleston, the city that made the South, O. Feez aka Joe College supplies listeners with music for people that listen...songs for lyricists and club-goers alike. Lets Get It.
Band/artist history
Ask O. Feez why he makes music. “I rap because I’m naturally good at it, it’s a gift. If I didn’t make songs, I’d be wasting a talent that a lot of people don’t have.” And fans have agreed that Feez’s talent will take him as far as he lets it. The ever-growing support and appreciation for his music is the main motivation for the MC, who is now working on his first “official” album. “I’ve just recently starting taking this rap thing serious, and if it wasn’t for the people in my ear that had so much confidence in me, I definitely wouldn’t be in the position I’m in now.” One of those people was Willie Tanner, who met Feez in high school, and is the co-founder of Carte Blanche Entertainment. O. Feez--who was born Omar Sharif Arthur in Charleston, SC--seems to have music in his blood. At 11 he taught himself how to play the piano, organ, and the drums, and his love for music only grew from there. The son of a Navy man, Feez lived in many places, allowing him to see the influence of music, particularly rap throughout his lifetime. “I remember in high school, when I was in Biloxi (Mississippi) at lunch all cats did was freestyle. Surprisingly, I didn’t rap, I was the cat that beat boxed or beat on the tables.” It was one of his high school friends that gave him the name O. Feez. At 16, Feez’s ideas for rap were to be a DJ, or to make beats, not to rock mics. However, during his freshman year at Mercer University, he had his first opportunity to record songs. “It was bootleg, we was recording on a tape recorder I had got, passing the mic around, if somebody mess up, stop the tape, rewind it, and do it all over again. It was fun, and people was actually liking what we was doin. After that I was focused on being on the mic, not on a beat machine or keyboard. It was over.” Feez transferred to the University of South Carolina after his sophomore year, and continued to progress in his music, as well as beginning to understand the business behind it. “Music is 10% talent, 90% business. So much is involved in just getting your music out there, so you gotta know your stuff, or you gonna get jerked. Point blank. I had to learn that the hard way, but I’m glad I learned that before I actually was taking music serious, because now I got my game face on at all times.” Feez is currently working on his debut album titled “The Balance”, which will be released on Carte Blanche Entertainment, and also adding to the countless number of mixtapes and “unofficial” albums that have already gotten him a fanbase. “If people is feeling me, and I aint really even got to the door yet, I’m not even on the driveway on my way to the door.once I kick it in, it’s gonna be all love. I’ll be stepping in like, ‘Honey, I’m home.’ People just gotta hear me, after that, I’m good.” Feez’s combination of clever lyrics, subtle humor, and honesty make him the total package. From club songs to personal looks into his life, Feez makes music that everybody can relate to. Braggadocio balanced with humbleness, brashness balanced with truth, the strength of Feez’s music lies in the balance he gives it. “I make music for everybody, because everybody has a number of ways they can feel at any given time. I’m a Libra, the scales. Any of my friends can tell you I’m a balance of a whole lot of traits, sometimes I’m funny, sometimes I’m serious, and so on, but no matter what, I’m never defined as being only one thing. My music is the same way, because I talk about so many things, yet they balance out to give a well rounded account of who I am. My music reflects me, which is the way it should be.”
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I'm currently a student at USC...and although this may seem taboo for a rap artist...I hate performing...but hopefully..lol thats just a phase.
