Nyree
"Wow! That is what I said while I was listening to this CD. This bare bones collection of musical dynamite is astounding. If there was ever a vocalist who could take your breath away, Nyree is it. Alone at the piano, Nyree belts out the most beautifully crafted and inspirational songs that I have had the opportunity to review. After the album was through, I had to sit back and awaken myself from the state of awe that this music put me in. There really are not any words that can describe the feeling and beauty of this music. 'Breathtakingly beautiful' doesn't even come close. There is something about this woman's voice that keeps the listener in a trance. This is a truly amazing work of art." TheGlobalMuseBand/artist history
Both visceral and soothing, Nyree's songs mix sultry vocals with warm piano and percussive guitar-crossing over the Pop, Folk, and Adult Alternative genres. Her new album, bare, is the kind of music you want listen to while laying on a hammock in the sunshine some lazy weekend afternoon.
As the album title suggests, Nyree's fourth album is an intimate portrait of a woman. The songs are a combination of love, contemplation, and joy. "I have a very strong vision right now for my music; to strip away instrumentation and production, leaving just the bones and flesh of the songs." Each song is recorded as one voice/one instrument, with Nyree playing piano on nine tracks and acoustic guitar on two tracks.
In 1998, Nyree's career hit fast-forward when she began to draw hundreds of people to her shows and was offered the chance to open for Jewel, Santana, and Crosby Stills & Nash. A graduate of Stanford University with a degree in Economics, Nyree has been playing piano, singing, and writing songs since she was five years old. "I always knew I wanted to be a rock star!" exclaims Nyree. "I used to pretend I was on 'Solid Gold' by making a microphone out of cardboard paper-towel tubes and taping a big wad of crumpled paper onto the end. Then I'd go outside and sing and dance to the radio on my parents front lawn."
Playing upwards of 200 shows a year across the U.S., Nyree has sold 10,000 CDs and tapes independently from the stage and the Internet. She was the "Artist Spotlight" on KLLC, the leading AAA station in Northern California, one of only a handful of local acts to be chosen for the broadcast. She is the two-time National Discovery Artist at the Hear Music retail store chain and was voted "Best Unsigned Band" at the Music Journalism Awards conference.Your musical influences
