Northern Lights Jazz Orchestra

The NLJO is a rehersal band in Bellingham, WA. which performs concerts 5 or 6 times a year, and occassionally plays for dancing. We are primarily a swing band in the tradition of the great Count Basie band, although we do perform some Bob Mintzer and Thad Jones charts.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
We've been together about 5 years. The personel has stayed pretty much the same, with changes from time to time in the rhythm section, as people move on.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
Yes, at the Fairhaven Village "Green" during the Summer months.
Your musical influences
The Count Basie band, Thad Jones - Mel Lewis Band, Bob Mintzer Band, Rob MacConnell, Bill Holman, Gerry Mulligan, Gil Evans, Quincy Jones, Frank Foster, Mart Paich, Shorty Rogers.
What equipment do you use?
All that a big band (18 piece) demands.
Anything else?
We have a vivacious female singer with the band, by the name of - Christine Anderson.
