Nome (FIN)
NOME is a finnish metal band from South Ostrobothnia and the musical directions have varied throughout its career. Interview coming up shortly.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
NOME was formed in Alajärvi, Finland by guitarist Jani Vuorela. At first, the sound could be described as Finnish metal in vein of bands such as Sentenced and 69 Eyes. NOME's first demo "Projected / Recycled" was recorded in Studio Watercastle in Une 2003. This recording got some positive feedback from the Finnish media and provided NOME with a recording deal from japanese World Chaos Productions. The debut album was to be recorded during spring 2004, but things got ugly with the record label due to financing and NOME lost its will to co-operate with WCP.
The 2004 was also a year for many changes to occur, drastic line-up changes and redefining the musical directions. Lead guitarist Jaakko Ylinen started participating in the songwriting a lot more and thus the term "finnish metal" lost its precision in describing the music. Second demo, "Macrocosmos", got some very good reviews in Finnish media - internet magazines and national radio stations. After recording "Macrocosmos", Nome welcomed a new bass player, Jouni Alho, to their camp.
January 2005, the quintet gave birth to the third, self-titled demo recording which was recorded by the band itself with Kosti Aho mixing and mastering the recording. The media showed interest towards the band and their music. But line-up changes kept coming. This time, the founding member Jani Vuorela decided to call it quits for him due to his studying hurries. Kosti Aho was chosen to be the right man for the job. Also, mr. Timonen decided to leave the band because of his civil duties.
After an intensive search for a vocalist, NOME decided to add Tommi Niemi (IKINAE) to replace Mikko Timonen. The quintet recorded their fourth output "IV : Something Borrowed, Something Blue" during July-December 2006 at their homestudios. Shortly after releasing the fourth demo, Tommi Niemi was determined to be kicked out due to his issues regarding communication with the rest of the band. He was replaced by Jouni Koskela and now NOME is stronger than ever. The upcoming fifth demo release will be titled "Once Again" and it will be recorded in Studio Watercastle in January 2008.
