Bio: Born Nichol Giovanni on May 15, to Daryl Winston and Vanessa Sexton Foley, I am the middle child of three chrildren--with an older brother, Erik Sexton and a younger brother, Lonnie Foley. As you might have guessed, I was named after the one and only Nikki Giovanni (the poet), by one of my five uncles. As a child I spent my early years growing up on Houstons Northside in government-funded apartments. My mother attended school and worked as my grandmother raised me along with my older brother. While attending Madison High School, I tried to establish my own identity by removing myself from the shadow of my older brother Erik, who became a popular basketball player, dancer and rapper. I started writing lyrics and composing songs back in 1987 where I mastered the art by mimicking my older brother Erik-the source of my inspiration. That inspiration coupled with the strict discipline of Marvin Washington, my producer, led me to record my first independent record label, "Mo Jam Records." Although I never signed a contract, I recorded commericals for Houstons number one radio station "97.9 the Box" and I introduced the on-coming d.j., Jamming Jimmy Olsen. Subsequently, Olsen played my first recorded song "H-Town Hoods." With hard work and dedication, I was soon on my way to stardom or os it seemed until financing became an insumountable obstacle for the independent label. Years went by before I picked up a pen again. When I did, I found myself coming back stronger than ever. This time I collaborated with a group named "Creekside Connection" on a compilation album where I was featured as "Nikki G" on songs like "Freestyle" and "Cali to da South." As Nikki G., Now Ms. Gotti, I was inspired to dream again. In 1999 I purchased tracks for a demo, met a group named "Casino Mob" and recorded two songs. Im now working on my first solo album entitled "Bi", which simply stands for both sides of the game--Nikki G. (the poet) and Ms. Gotti(the hype) who have the same wish--to captivate men and women with the hard struggle and raw truth of reality in life.
