Band/artist history
Nikita Bratus is a composer and jazz pianist from Moscow, author of all music on this page. He is one of the pioneers of smooth jazz in Russia. Since the age of 15 he started to compose piano music. He has secondary special as well as higher musical education in playing the jazz piano. In 1986 he created his first group called Medium. "Medium" performed music composed and arranged by Nikita Bratus, playing style such as art rock and jazz rock. This music was difficult and sated enough to include the elements of different folklore traditions, doth Eastern and Russian. Alongside with composing and performing activity Nikita Bratus taught jazz piano in The Jazz College, then in the jazz branch of famous Stasov music school. Nikita performed with many known musicians, not only Russian but also from America. These include saxophonists David Sanborn, David Mann, singer Nicky Richards, Mindi Abair, Richard Elliot, Russian group Trans Atlantik of Sergey Chipenko. To make a recording of his album "One step" he invited his friends - the best Moscow musicians. Among them trumpeter Vladimir Galaktionov - the soloist from the jazz band of Igor Butman, saxophonist Konstantin Gorshkov - the soloist from Oleg Lundstrem jazz orchestra, Peter Dolsky - fantastic bass guitarist who is now playing with the popular Russian group named "Prime Minister". All these musicians are very famous in Russia as they are highly talented and real professionals. The work of sound engineer Vitaly Nenastin deserves special recognition, as has shown huge patience when working on "One Step" album. This page also presents compositions by Nikita Bratus in the styles new age and ambient - these were recorded at composer's home studio
