The Nielsen/Goodman duo combines the masterful skills of David Nielsen on amplified classical guitar with the innovative Percussive Harmonic technique of Garry Goodman on the first 7-string bass guitar. Since the early 1990’s, Garry and David’s original compositions have provided a canvas for this unique sound that is the result of diverse musical influences ranging from jazz and be-bop to classical and world music.
Band/artist history
History of the Project Garry and David met in 1977 as members of Jasmine, a jazz fusion quartet and house band at the newly re-opened Troubadour in Los Angeles. While performing and composing with Jasmine, they discovered that they shared a unique musical synergy and vision that has evolved into the Nielsen-Goodman Project. David Nielsen David Nielsen has been a master guitarist and professional composer/musician for over 30 years. The privilege of studying and playing with world famous guitarists such as Andres Segovia, Christopher Parkening, Julian Bream, Pepe Romero and Lee Ritenour has had a great impact on David’s musicianship. David has earned both his Bachelors and Masters degrees at the prestigious University of Southern California. In addition to performing with Jasmine and the Nielsen-Goodman Project, he composes and arranges music for classical and jazz guitar. He also composes music for radio spots, television and film. David is a published songwriter affiliated with BMI and AFTRA. Garry Goodman Garry Goodman has been a full-time union bassist since 1970. He has extensive experience performing with and opening for name acts at concerts, conventions, corporate functions, on cruise ships, and in showrooms, restaurants and night clubs. He is a BMI publisher/writer and a signatory producer with the A.F.M., composing and producing music for radio and television commercials, as well as songs and scores for film. Garry is recognized as the world’s first 7-string bass guitarist and is a pioneer on the 9- and 11-string bass guitar. In the 1970’s, he developed a unique playing technique called Percussive Harmonics that expands the tonal possibilities of the electric bass guitar. This technique and its various applications is a key feature of the innovative sound of the Nielsen-Goodman Project.
