Band/artist history
Whatever it is, it has enabled her to perform extensively to packed audiences throughout the Add to that some killer songs with catchy hooks that stick in your head, haunting guitar lines, an energy that could solar-power your entire neighborhood, no studio gimmicks, and you've got yourself one smokin' band with an unstoppable front woman for real. When she gives her band the night off, you can catch Nicola around town at various clubs, coffee shops and venues as a rare treat unplugged in solo or duo form, and you may even be lucky enough to catch one of her high energy featured Music Under NY subway performances, as she dazzles the crowds of NYC straphangers. NY's Village Voice commented on Nicola's talent & undeniable energy with a description of "Jane Child via Melissa Etheridge".Nicola has been featured on ABC World News, NBC News,Warner/Reprise Records site "Flypaper",MTA's "Music Under NY", VH1.com, and in WomenWhoRock & Inside Connection Magazine as well as Bob Baker's Buzz Factor.Highlight performances include Hard Rock Café's "Battle of the Bands", Nashville's "Summerlights", Songwriter's Hall of Fame, & shows with Muzz Skillings (of "Living Colour"), Shanice, & Milly Quezada - International Merengue sensation, as well as guest appearances on Rochester's Infinity Broadcasted WCMF - 96.5 FM with "Brother Wease", the Howard Stern of the Northeast. Guitars and percussion instruments are layered subtly yet effectively to achieve this, and once again we hear the interweaving of a multitude of genres and musical styles... Rock, Soul, R&B, Latin, Folk & Alternative, all of which comprise Nicola's influences, and all of which give her that signature sound. Fans will definitely want to check out the final cut of the CD which is a special acoustic track ("Ay Ay Ay").Oh yes, and folks, make sure you pick up a copy of Nicolas CD which is sure to knock your socks off, but remember, live shes even better!
Have you performed in front of an audience?
We are based in NYC, but we've had the great fortune and opportunity to tour and play live in venues across the county as well as in London and South America. Let's see...some cool career highlights were sharing the stage with Pop/R&B Icon Shanice in NYC, performing live in NYC's Grand Central Station & being filmed by ABC World News, performing live on Clear Channel Station WCMF with "The Wease" who is considered to be the "Howard Stern" of Rochester, doing a vocal commercial promo for NY's hot R&B station WBLS, experiencing our first mosh pit in Richmond, VA, the lights going out in the middle of the show in Argentina, and fans from London's 12-Bar Club rushing the stage to try and get their underwear autographed by the band.
Your musical influences
Oh boy...our musical influences, references and tastes run the gammit, but people love to compare us to other artists...and they swear by their comparisons...it's hilarious...one reviewer from "NY Cool" described us as "contagious vibrant energy kind of like Dave Matthews on speed..." Another famous critic from the Village Voice cited references to Pat Benetar and Shakira...wow...really...all over the map. I guess it's a compliment when people think you're different or diverse. Some people have said there were similarities to Ani DiFranco, Joan Osborne, Melissa Etheridge, Tori Amos, Vertical Horizon, Pearl Jam, Alana Davis, Phoebe Snow, Tina Turner, Heart & even Led Zepellin. We've definitely been influenced by all of those artists, and the reason why our genre falls loosely into the category of Pop/Rock/Soul is that we are all of mixed nationalities and grew up with a mix of Latin, Rock, Soul, Alternative and Folk music in our blood so to speak. I guess if you buy our album or see us live you'll get it...the driving rock and soul grooves with latin beats and percussive guitar stylings...the lyrical melodies on both guitars and vocals and the energy...that's probably the single-most thing that distinguishes or seperates us from many other bands out there, since it is ingrained in us that we are here to do the best live show possible and involve the audience somehow. Besides...you paid money to see us? Well ok then...we're going to give you a run for your money!
What equipment do you use?
Our set-up and configuration is a core-band of 4 people - 2 guitars, bass, drums, lead and backing vocals. Sometimes we "pair down" to a duo for an unplugged show or event, and if doing a special party or showcase we add pieces like keyboards, percussion, backing vocals, sometimes sampling and even live dancers to spice things up a bit...we are getting more into some of the modern and hip sounds and are looking into incorporating more sampled rhythmic and electronic ideas into our live show.
Anything else?
