Newspaper Taxi

Hi, we're Newspaper Taxi! We're from Toronto, Ontario, Canada and we play original fun, upbeat rock. Umm... so far so good.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Wow, history. Um... in 1995 or so, I answered a "Bassist wanted" sign that was up at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg... and subsequently joined what became "The Quarrymen" (another Beatles' reference). The lead singer/rhythm guitarist/main songwriter and I have been together ever since, and moved to Toronto together in 2000 to further the band. We went through A LOT of lead guitarists and even more drummers in both cities, playing at times as "Meanswell" and "The Mint 400", until we solidified the current line-up (and name) in early 2004.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
We play live in Toronto and surrounding area, mostly at but also at other bars and events in the area, and we are planning on touring further in 2005!
Your musical influences
The Beatles are an inspiration, definitely, but each band member has very different musical tastes and backgrounds. We've been told at times that we sound like the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Weezer, Sloan... I tend to describe it as the sort of music you'd hear on the local "popular" rock station... well, let's say among the more original songs you'd find there.
What equipment do you use?
*laughs* We play everything, really, none of us has particular loyalties to any makes or models that I know of...
