NELSON FRANK - LIGHT UP THE NIGHT NELSON FRANK - LIGHT UP THE NIGHT
Grammy Nominated R&B Artist, Songwriter and Producer
Band/artist history
Nelson Frank is a multi-disciplined R&B singer, producer, and Grammy nominated songwriter who has been a force behind such artists as Ginuwine, Tank, Dave Hollister, LeToya Luckett, Ronald Isley, Omarion, Keyshia Cole, Pleasure P and countless others. He can safely be called an entertainment veteran having honed his craft since he was a teenager. Growing up across the street from a nightclub, he regularly heard the heavy rhythms of Go-Go Bands whose music became the soundtrack to his years as a young artist. As a child he frequently traveled with his concert promoter Grandmother, allowing him to interact with many blues luminaries. This early exposure opened him up to every genre of music and he credits the blues for the grittiness that gives his sound real depth.
By age 15 hed recorded his first demo with Kevin Jackson; husband of Staci Lattisaw and owner of the well-respected Night Flight Studios. That same year he and Mowett began recording and doing showcases - winning a BET soundstage contest that had them open up for Brian Mcknight, KC and JoJo, and SWV. It was there that Ginuwine caught their act and with his official endorsement Mowett grew an almost cult following in the DMV. His academic instruction was bolstered under renowned teacher Mary Cole; known for her roster of successful former students like producer Rico Anderson as well as acclaimed talent Michelle N'DeChello. Aside from learning how to perform anytime-anywhere, he practiced the intricate vocal techniques and stage presence of artists like James Brown, Charlie Wilson and Boyz II Men. Performances at the Kennedy Center and other major venues became his training ground and under her rigorous regimen he learned to behave like a pro.
Nelson soon began an eight year trek on the road with Ginuwines former background singer, Tank, as well as performing backup vocals for R&B song stylist, Dave Hollister. It was also during this auspicious period that he and Mowett relocated to LA and signed a deal with Dreamworks, releasing an album with the first single called Drop Top Bentley, featuring Dave Hollister. Another song co-written by Nelson, True Rider, made it on the soundtrack for the film, Biker Boys. His track record of producing and songwriting continued to flourish over the years with Nelson writing songs and producing for artists like former Destinys Child member LeToya Luckett, Ronald Isley, Omarion, Keyshia Cole, Pleasure P and others. Tank and Nelson also formed a publishing company, Song Dynasty, and were signed to a publishing and production deal with Warner Chappell. By 2010 Nelson found himself at the Grammy Awards with three nominations as co-writer for Pleasure Ps Under. The Perfect Song for The Perfect Occasion is the first release that will be setting the stage for his solo entrance into the mainstream.
