To label Myriad as a band with a promising future or as a band of potential is an injustice. Myriad have a real depth to their music already and a dark mystique you won't see for miles around. In this modern age of undefined rock it's so damn refreshing to hear a band whose lyrics are actually deep in a true sense. Songs like "La Julia" can stimulate a dedicated listener's emotions, and is an infinite opposition to the trite nonsense about skater boyz or well-endowed school mistresses living next door (available for your listening trauma on a commercial music channel near you!)
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Myriad are Dan Bignell, Gareth Burrows, Mark Kragh and Mark Stuart. Crossing paths from different parts of the world, Gareth and Dan first met in Plymouth Uni, and after some open mic nights held by the uni's music society in the Cuba cafe we met the Danish drummer extraordannaire Mark Kragh, who after many nirvana covers joined me and Dan to form the first incarnation of Myriad. As a three piece doing mostly covers we met Mark Stuart at the cooperage open mic night, and with a kickass bassist on our team we started progressing as a band. After about 10 months we recorded our first demo at PMC, and with the help of Doc got down 3 tracks recorded live. Early in 2003 Myriad went back to PMC to record as a backing band to Mark's sister (over from Denmark) on some acoustic rock songs, and over the two days Myriad managed to record 2 more new songs. These two songs showed a band further defining their style, and with Doc at the desk the recording came out sounding immense. In June 2003, with the aid of Dan's New Deal for Musicians, Myriad went to Deep Blue Sound Studio as a project band for students to record. Playing live in a very hot humid studio, and after breaking 3 guitar strings in 20 minutes, we managed to record 2 more songs and are awaiting the 7 seperate mixes from the students of each song. Cant wait.....
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
