80's New Wave Underground
Night World was a short-lived but electric collaboration between songwriter Thomas Vincze and performer David Ilku. Recorded in early 1986, Hunting For You captured a slice of NYC’s 80s New Wave underground. The project performed once at Danceteria - a moment suspended in that era’s neon pulse and the track circulated through clubs including The Palladium, Danceteria, and Save the Robots. A brief chapter. A real one.

Story behind the song
“Hunting for You" was written as a stylized metaphor for attraction at its most primal. Set against minimal synth textures and steady electronic drums, the song strips everything down to instinct hunger, pursuit, tension, and surrender. Rather than literal violence, the jungle imagery captures that electric moment when two people circle each other emotionally and physically. The hunt becomes a dance: power, anticipation, and inevitability. It also marks the beginning of a real-life creative partnership. This was the first thing I ever did with Sheppard Solomon - our first collaboration. I met Shep at One Right Angle Studios on Manhattan’s West Side in December 1985, where Emile Zogby (the studio’s owner/engineer) was running sessions. Shep was there as an intern - basically unpaid, just soaking it all in - and we connected right away. From that point on, we began collaborating and kept building from there. David Ilku’s vocal carries the calm intensity of the hunter, while Sheppard Solomon’s background vocals add atmosphere and depth, like shadows moving in the brush. The sparse production keeps the focus on mood and rhythm, letting the memorable chorus sink its teeth in. It’s seductive, slightly playful, and intentionally cinematic - desire told through metaphor.
Lyrics
The moon was shining brightly when I opened up my eyes My stomach was all empty, my mouth was still dry I felt so hungry so I went up on a prowl I could sense that you were nearby, so I let out a growl... I'm hunting, yeah, I'm hunting, hunting for you... I was roaming through the brush There was absolute silence The temperature was rising I was out for a kill You knew that it was true There was nothing you could do But still you tried to run Oh, baby it's no use... I'm hunting, yeah, I'm hunting, hunting for you... I caught you in the jungle Where there was little hope Your fate was in my hands now This was no joke I rose with victory You took it all with pride You tasted so good that my hunger had subside... I'm hunting, yeah, I'm hunting, hunting for you I'm hunting, yeah, I'm hunting, hunting for you...
