This is a remix of the original where we speed up the 24 track tape and David knocked out a reimagined vocal track over it.
80's New Wave Underground
Night World was a short-lived but electric collaboration between songwriter Thomas Vincze and performer David Ilku.
Recorded in early 1986, Hunting For You captured a slice of NYC’s 80s New Wave underground. The project performed once at Danceteria - a moment suspended in that era’s neon pulse and the track circulated through clubs including The Palladium, Danceteria, and Save the Robots.
A brief chapter. A real one.
Story behind the song
This remix almost didn’t make it out alive.
Back then I was running my own label, Already 21 Records, doing everything myself while also working nights at the Palladium. Between the job, the promo grind, and the pressure of trying to push the original version, it all became too much.
I placed an order to manufacture about 300 copies of the remix and left the original master at Discmakers in Manhattan, thinking I’d come back and finalize it. I never did. The master was abandoned there and I could never retrieve it.
For a while, the only thing I had was a single test pressing - the approval copy you listen to before full manufacturing. And then even that disappeared. No one knows where it went. Gone.
So when I say this version is the last surviving trace, I mean it literally: master gone, test pressing gone - this audio is all that remains.
Lyrics
The moon was shining brightly when I opened up my eyes
My stomach was all empty, my mouth was still dry
I felt so hungry so I went up on a prowl
I could sense that you were nearby, so I let out a growl...
I'm hunting, yeah, I'm hunting, hunting for you...
I was roaming through the brush
There was absolute silence
The temperature was rising
I was out for a kill
You knew that it was true
There was nothing you could do
But still you tried to run
Oh, baby it's no use...
I'm hunting, yeah, I'm hunting, hunting for you...
I caught you in the jungle
Where there was little hope
Your fate was in my hands now
This was no joke
I rose with victory
You took it all with pride
You tasted so good that my hunger had subside...
I'm hunting, yeah, I'm hunting, hunting for you
I'm hunting, yeah, I'm hunting, hunting for you...
