The lyrics were inspired by winter ending, and by the work of Merle Massie, PhD, who wrote an excellent book titled Forest Prairie Edge: Place History in Saskatchewan. She is a Saskatchewan writer, editor, and farmer specializing in local, rural, and environmental history.
