Story behind the song

Although I tend to be hopeful regarding the potential for individual salvation, I'm sure that the general human condition is extremely bleak.  Our current western political establishment is senselessly being run mostly by people with computer-like brains, devoid of wisdom and sincerity, except when the situation is such that feigning such qualities appear to be the most self-serving tactic.  
I always liked this song arrangement when I first wrote it for the song "When Every Day is Monday".  However, I decided that the song warranted more biting lyrics, hence this new variation.
