Story behind the song
A ditty composed not long after becoming involved with Christianity. Had meant for it to be used by the folk group 'Celebration' I was playing with, but the group did not last that long! An original attempt at recording can be found here:

ai helped tidy it up! (though does the singer remind anyone of Iain Anderson of Jethro Tull?)
Lyrics
There once was a garden, a garden so fair
With lots of jolly flowers and joy in the air
Now living in this garden were two human beings
A young man called Adam and a maiden called Eve
Now they were from the East, gardeners by trade
And they tended the garden their creator had made
It was all jolly fine and they were glad to be alive
Because living is fun when you don't have to die
But a serpent came to them to catch them unawares
Told them 'Eat of the fruit of that tree over there'
He told them God loved them, did not want them to die
The fruit would make them like him and open their eyes
The woman eyed the fruit, decided to taste
Little knowing to do so would curse all their days
She gave some to Adam and he took a bite
They realized they'd done wrong and didn't feel right
They saw they were naked and made clothes out of leaves
As God came a-walking, they hid in the trees
He shouted, "Where are you? Why do you hide?"
"I was afraid 'cause I was naked" was what Adam replied
Their creator was angry and said, "What have you done?
Have you eaten of the fruit I said you were to have none?"
The man said, "The woman gave me the fruit"
The woman said the snake had her totally fooled
Then God cursed the serpent and cursed the ground too
It brought forth weeds and thistles instead of good food
He cursed the woman, and her troubles increased
Across the years her worries never ceased
When his fury had cooled, he made them some clothes
And threw them out of the garden to start on their own
So Eve lay with Adam and gave birth to Cain
And the human race got well on its way
But as time rolled on, people wouldn't listen to God
They listened to each other, never counting the cost
Though he sent them great prophets who told of great joy
They just turned their backs and then walked away
He pleaded and pleaded, not wanting us to die
He even sent His only son to bring us new life
Yet people ignore him, they still turn away
They won't do it forever, they've got to meet him someday
