Story behind the song
In the early 1970's the "Bay City Rollers" were flying high. I was recruited by a local music guy to be part of a boyband called "The Kansas City Rockers". I did not sccept the offer. However the idea amused me so much I went home and wrote a boyband song in a suitably awful manner. Eventually recorded a hissy version on a couple of Akai 2 tracks. Not good... but you can hear it hear:
https://soundclick.com/song/15017387 The opportunity to give it the ai treatment was irrisistable. Thankfully the world was spared of this sarcastic masterpiece.... until now.
Lyrics
If Only I Could Love You Like You Love Me. Baby
Adrian J Pratt 1975
If I could love you, baby
If I could love you, baby
If I could love you, like you love me... (baby)
Then we could be together
Me and you forever
We'd never have to break up again
I remember when we first started
It was me for you and you for me
But now something's changed inside my heart
It's not the way it used to be
If I could love you, baby
If I could love you, baby
If I could love you, like you love me... (baby)
Then we could be together
Me and you forever
We'd never have to break up again
Only I still like you, oh such a lot
But when I say I love you, I'm a liar
I'd like to go out with you, no matter what
But deep down inside of me, there ain't no fire
Would it be so foolish to try and start again?
Maybe I could love you if you gave me time
Well, what do you say? Shall we try it again?
I'm sure we could work it better this time, this time
If I could love you, baby
If I could love you, baby
If I could love you, like you love me... (baby)
Then we could be together
Me and you forever
We'd never have to break up again
If I could love you, baby
If I could love you, baby
If I could love you, like you love me... (baby)
Then we could be together
Me and you forever
We'd never have to break up again
