folky ballad with piano
love piano folk guitar
Artist picture
Singer-songwriter, arranger and producer: acoustic contemporary folk but ranging into rock/blues/country/jazz/humour...all very eclectic, I'm afraid!
Martin Stirrup Singer/songwriter An old folkie who got back into it... These days I sing and play guitar(s) and other stringed instruments, then score and orchestrate where appropriate. My taste becomes increasingly eclectic ranging from finger-picked folk through country to soft rock mixed in with a few more alternative and eccentric numbers, including the odd novelty foxtrot...

Story behind the song
A song of lost love I played this occasionally at the club with a simple picked guitar backing. This arrangement uses scored piano and organ.
Lyrics
Sitting cold on a fallen tree Looking through everything there is to see Never stirring or exchanging words As she breaks the bread to feed the birds And she acts as if there’s nothing changed This moment had to come was so arranged Empty feeling that you can’t define Plays like midges on the waterline Talking sympathy so they say Never helps to solve things anyway Resurrecting an ancient dream Can do nothing to explode the theme But when reasons lost the things you’ve done Seem magnified and mystic in the sun And the times you’ve sat and watched the sky Are reflected now within her eye
