Artist picture
Singer-songwriter, arranger and producer: acoustic contemporary folk but ranging into rock/blues/country/jazz/humour...all very eclectic, I'm afraid!
Martin Stirrup Singer/songwriter An old folkie who got back into it... These days I sing and play guitar(s) and other stringed instruments, then score and orchestrate where appropriate. My taste becomes increasingly eclectic ranging from finger-picked folk through country to soft rock mixed in with a few more alternative and eccentric numbers, including the odd novelty foxtrot...

Story behind the song
The second song in my songbook and amazingly one with a singalong chorus in traditional folk style Quite a simple song so I scored a fiddle part to perk it up a bit.
Lyrics
Walking down the road with all my dreams Thinking of all the things that I have seen And about the way things might have been Looking back again to you Strolling down the road along my way Contemplating still on yesterday And on all the things I hoped you’d say Looking back again to you But it’s all over now I realize Should have guessed when I looked in your eyes But it’s easy now to be wise when I’m Looking back again to you Yu said you loved me and like a fool I believed you so I played it cool Then you left me and broke all my rules Still I’m thinking back to you You had deceived me and for a time I couldn’t see any reason or rhyme The way you treated me was such a crime Still I’m thinking back to you But it’s all over now I realize Should have guessed when I looked in your eyes But it’s easy now to be wise when I’m Looking back again to you Now I realize that you were not to blame You were just playing a different game I guess there’s many more that play the same Maybe in time I’ll forget you So I’ll go off and I’ll shop around Find another girl another town Make sure that this one doesn’t drag me down And then in time I’ll forget you But it’s all over now I realize Should have guessed when I looked in your eyes But it’s easy now to be wise when I’m Looking back again to you
