Singer-songwriter, arranger and producer: acoustic contemporary folk but ranging into rock/blues/country/jazz/humour...all very eclectic, I'm afraid!
Martin Stirrup Singer/songwriter An old folkie who got back into it... These days I sing and play guitar(s) and other stringed instruments, then score and orchestrate where appropriate. My taste becomes increasingly eclectic ranging from finger-picked folk through country to soft rock mixed in with a few more alternative and eccentric numbers, including the odd novelty foxtrot...

Story behind the song
By the end of my first term I ditched my cheap and tatty guitar for an Echo Jumbo (and had to live on porridge omelettes for a term to pay for it). This had a nice action so you could play things high up the fretboard without killing your fingers. This was me trying to be clever with my new toy I’ve filled it out with some strings and things.
Lyrics
Open eyes gazing lonely upon a summer scene Haze of flies down by the river but none in her dreams Of her admirers fighting for her smile The kiss of friendship she see go by Floating there with the tide Picks a flower throws it over see it rise and swirl In a power not if its making; oh how her senses whirl At the likeness and for a while That empty feeling returns to find A tear in her mind
