A funny little folk-rock ditty about unloading your unneeded junk. For money.
folk rock humor
Folk music for postmoderns
I am what you might call a musical generalist. I listen to pretty much everything and I compose in pretty much any style, though I concentrate mainly on folk, folk-rock, rock, synth-pop, alternative, comedy, musical theatre, jazz, new-age, film music, avant-garde, and the occasional lullaby (why sing your kid to sleep with "Rock-a-bye Baby" when you can can create something personalized?). I've done most of my professional (i.e. paid) work in the theatre, where I've been musical director for dozens of productions. I was also musical director of Mental Floss, the legendary Miami improv group, for over 500 performances; I recently did a stint with Laughing Gas, which rose from the ashes of Mental Floss 11 years ago to become the longest running improv group in South Florida. As a singer-songwriter, I've concentrated most of my energy on my signature style of synth-driven folk-rock (sort of Indigo Girls meets Vangelis). I'm also something of a minor celebrity in the world of Filk (folk music for science fiction fans), where I am proud to be the object of the worlds smallest international fan base.

Lyrics
[verse 1] Baby gather up your odds and ends This is where our money troubles end Pack 'em in the back of our GM van We're going to market get what we can [verse 2] We all have sweaty collars and tired feet Here where obsolescence is obsolete Got a table near the entrance and we've got it made Maybe next week we can park in the shade [bridge] Check out the golden oldie Selling items that are slightly moldy he's quite a sight to behold, he's Got a tattoo on his chest Says "I got mine, now I want the rest." [chorus] Flea market, flea market Everyone's a pioneer Flea market, flea market All roads lead from here Got a dollar that I'm willing to spend Don't have to be a millionaire At the flea market Flea market Where everything for sale is a spare [verse 3] It's a neo-surrealistic multi-media collage That says it's everybody's birthright to own a garage Everybody's selling and there's always a pitch It's a Turkish bazaar done in American Kitsch [bridge] I've got: Half the innards of an old computer A slightly melted Salad Shooter Every record ever made by K-tel Velvet paintings of dogs playing cards (You can tell who's winning if you look real hard) [chorus] Flea market, flea market You must wear clothes that clash Flea market, flea market Promise anything but only take cash Look a customer right in the eye Never show a hint of fear At the flea market, flea market All things new and beautiful Will someday end up here [middle 8] From Seattle to Key West Recession suits us best When the money's tight and you start to fight And your checkbook needs a rest Though your needs are many you can never strain us We've an endless supply of the miscellaneous [chorus] Flea Market, flea market Our motives all are pure Flea Market, flea market Everyone's an entrepreneur [chorus] Flea Market, flea market For profit or for fun Flea Market, flea market Nothing new under the sun Look a customer right in the eye Never show a hint of fear At the flea market, flea market All things new and beautiful Will someday end up here
